Serious science tatoos

tree of life Serious science tatoos

A strange inclination has been building. I’m thinking of getting a tatoo. Several girlfriends all have tats on their feet, and sadly I’ll have to break the sacred ring because if I do it, it will be a butterfly – big surprise there! – on the back of my left shoulder. I’d like it to mean something. I’d like it to symbolize the end of that part of my life lived for others and the beginning that will be lived in honor of myself. These people wanted their tats to mean just as much. Their passion is science and I must say that these are some of the neatest tatoos I’ve ever seen.

But then, how will you make the butterfly all scientific-y…? ;)

that’s a good question! anyone got ideas?

one of the images i found when i googled “butterfly tatoos” was a butterfly with its center replaced by a spiral-ly looking thing that reminded me of the rod of Asclepius. Wouldn’t it be neat to combine my nursing with my butterfly?

Well, you could go the poetic/intellectual route;)

What does it mean?! and is it real – or some person too obsessed to know the boundaries of personal space and dignity?

  • "Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket, safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable." — C.S. Lewis
