Vacation thoughts

June 29

The best thing I did to prepare for going away was cleaning my house the day before we left. Because when we got home, the place was peaceful and we all felt totally able to just lay about and rest from our vacation. lol

Lying on a beach is the only time I am not compelled to be a busy body and so am free from the need to accomplish something. I can simply lie there and be one with the sand, jack pines, husband and the injured butterflies that kept coming to visit me.

Even on vacation, books are my favorite things. the B & B we stayed in had books everywhere. We were given books that I am excited to read. And when we had an hour to kill on a cloudy day, where did we end up? A favorite used bookstore where we were once regulars. My “currently reading” list is huge!

Sharing too many glasses of wine with my girlfriend is the best ever. Pinot grigio chardonnay is my new best friend.

The green dress and black heels were a hit. I felt great in them, the dress was dance-worthy but then the girls liked the heels too. Bonus. {ps. I’ll admit to not dancing in the heels. lol}

I found out that pansies look adorable and are long-lasting as cut flowers and promptly filled a teacup to display my own once I got home.

My kids playing with all their kids and really truly enjoying each other after years of separation. Priceless.

There were not enough hours in the days to have all the conversations I wanted to have. But I did get to hold the new baby.

The urge to tow the old line was so strong. I was surprised at how much so.

I had meaningful five minute conversations wherein my ability to be honest with people grew a hundred fold.

Some things never change.

Some things do.

    It sounds like your vacation was more than a week at the beach. Glad you made the most of it!

  • "Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket, safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable." — C.S. Lewis
