Why I love Facebook

August 29

It recently occurred to me that something I personally like about online social networks is part of their widespread popularity.

Every so often I get an interesting shot and decide to update my Facebook page with a new profile picture. So, of course I end up flipping through all of my old ones. Don’t you? That got me thinking.

Hey, these photos are a little online scrapbook of me. As are my goodreads profile and Xbox gamer card and my blog, etc. Granted those are all in different places for different audiences, but I connect them all as much as I possibility can. I think it’s important.

And they are all little puzzles pieces of my life. And collecting them and showing them off online is my public and proud trophy case. Only, said trophy case doesn’t really need to have blue ribbons and gold medals. It just needs to have bits of me. And that’s enough. That’s special.

Just don’t forget to wash the glass on your case, so I can see inside, ok?

  • "Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket, safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable." — C.S. Lewis
