We all know that Lent approaches with haste this year. It also means we have to get moving on making King Cake!

This year I just want to be sure you are pointed in the right direction, so that your Fat Tuesday is everything it can be. This recipe is the best link - for its simple directions and wonderful pictures. Bon appetit!

Thanks for putting these up. I meant to ask for Lenten recipes but kept forgetting. These will both give me a “jump start” but also reminded me to ASK! :-)

This sounds very much like the Galette des rois served in France at Epiphany. I think the recipe varies from region to region, but the one I tasted in Paris was a wonderful pastry confection with almond paste inside. If you found the “bean” inside, you were king for the day!

What an excellent idea for Mardi Gras – pancakes are not nearly as festive.

    :)

Could I have a translation on that? ;) How nice to see the link between the countries, thanks so much!

I think it translates to “Kings’ Cake!” … specifically a galette is a “flat cake made of puff pastry” … so now we see where this may have come from. :-)

  • "Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket, safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable." — C.S. Lewis
